Q: Why move the spare off the tailgate instead of just keeping it where it is?
A: The factory tailgate hinges are not designed for heavy spare tires long-term, especially larger aftermarket sizes. Every time you open and close the gate with a heavy tire on it, you're stressing the hinges. A swing-out carrier moves that load off the gate entirely and frees up the tailgate for proper access.

Q: After installing the carrier, does the backup camera still have a usable view?
A: The swing-out carrier with a tire on it can partially obstruct the camera's view depending on tire size and camera angle. Use the live chat with your tire size for specifics.

Q: What maintenance does the swing arm hinge actually need over time?
A: Lubricate the hinge pivot periodically, especially after trail use in mud or water. Check the hinge hardware torque every few months. A stiff swing is usually fixed with cleaning and fresh lube.

Q: Can I still open the tailgate normally with the carrier installed?
A: Yes. The carrier swings out independently from the tailgate. Swing the carrier open first, then the tailgate drops as normal.

The factory spare mounts to the tailgate swing arm, adding significant weight and stress to the tailgate hinges over time. This carrier moves the spare to a proper rear-mounted position, eliminating that stress and letting the tailgate operate normally. Compatible with all DV8 rear bumpers. Works across all trims, 2-door and 4-door.
